How much does it cost?
- I don’t advertise costs because a lot of what I do is bespoke – and I develop programmes around what you need.
- The investment depends on your needs i.e. the number of sessions, whether the sessions will be in person or online, how long you would like each session to be etc.
- Please don’t hesitate about getting in touch because of a fear of it being too expensive. I try to price my coaching with small business owners and professionals so that it’s accessible. I also have a student rate.
- I offer an initial free consultation to explore your challenges and what you’d like from coaching, and once we know what you’re after I can give you pricing.
What exactly is coaching?
Coaching is a structured conversation, or series of conversations, designed to help people solve problems, learn, develop, and achieve their goals.
People usually come to coaching because they want things to be different—they want to learn and change something.
Coaching is about awareness: awareness of thoughts, emotional reactions, patterns of behaviour, how others respond to us, and situational awareness. Awareness leads to insight, and insight leads to change.
By focusing on a challenge or situation, we develop awareness of what’s happening and often shift our perspective; we begin to see ourselves, others, or the world differently. As a result, we have different emotional and behavioural responses—we feel and act differently. Ultimately, changes in how we show up and behave lead to changes in results.
A coaching session is about facilitating that learning and change.
Coaching vs therapy: what's the difference?
Technically, I am a coaching psychologist. In practice, this means that I apply the science of psychology to my coaching work.
Although I am a psychologist (BA, MA), I am not a therapist. Psychology is the science of mind and behaviour, and it is a broad field encompassing everything from biology (e.g. neuroscience) to business (e.g. organisational psychology).
Coaching and therapy have different focuses and goals.
The key focus of coaching is supporting professional and personal development. This is achieved by pursuing specific behaviours and outcomes that the client wants to attain. The fundamental goal of coaching is to help clients clarify and reach their goals. It focuses on the future and the actions we need to take to create that future.
The purpose of therapy is to address emotional pain and dysfunction, often by focusing on past difficulties in order to process them so that we might feel differently in the present. For example, the aim of counselling psychotherapy is to deal with issues such as anxiety, loss, and addiction (IACP, 2014). Both coaching and therapy can have supportive functions. However, I do not work with people experiencing clinical levels of anxiety or depression, or those in long-term psychological distress where this has led to a loss of daily functioning (e.g. being unable to get out of bed or go to work).
Coaching, in contrast, is usually future-focused. It examines and leverages your current thinking, emotions, and behaviour in order to help you achieve your goals. It also allows for a more challenging approach to exploring thinking and behaviour than therapy (I can push a little).
Secondly, the best way to understand what coaching is is to experience it. That’s why I offer an introductory session (called a chemistry session).
Coaching vs training - what's the difference?
Training focuses on transferring specific knowledge or skills. It’s usually structured, with predefined content, and designed to teach participants what to do or how to do it.
Coaching is a personalized, collaborative process that helps individuals reflect, build self-awareness, and unlock their own solutions. It’s about guiding people to think differently, grow, and apply learning in real-life situations.
We like to think of it as coaching being about helping people use what they already have (e.g. problem solving ability, creativity, resilience, values, empathy, curiosity) to address their challenges – rather than learning a set way to address a common problem (training).
